Thayer Career Services

About Us

Dartmouth has a dedicated Career Services Office just for engineering, providing students and alumni with counseling, networking resources, career information, and more to assist you in carving out your own niche. Dartmouth offers a wide range of internships and research opportunities so you can try out a variety of fields through real-world, hands-on experience.

An engineering degree from Dartmouth prepares you to identify problems in the world that need human-centered solutions. In doing so, our graduates often create their own jobs—and new jobs for others.

We need to break out of the mindset that views engineering as a way to 'get a good job' and instead recognize it as a way to develop the skills needed for technological innovation and job creation.  — Joe Helble, Dean of Engineering 2005–2019

Mission

Through customized coaching and networking resources, we support engineering students and alumni in developing strategies for career success.

Vision

All students will be confident and knowledgeable about the career development process and have strengthened self-awareness when they graduate from Thayer School.

We build relationships with employers to provide a diverse set of opportunities and internships for our students and serve as a resource for information on industry trends, job markets, and student outcomes.

In addition, our team recognizes that collaboration and creativity thrive when we fully embrace diverse perspectives and backgrounds on our teams, in our learning, and in our work.

We commit to creating a welcoming environment at Thayer and partnering with alumni and employers who share our vision of a more diverse and inclusive workplace—not only for a more equitable world, but also to best serve the future of innovation.

Goals

To that end, we will:

  • Actively work towards Inclusive Excellence at Thayer;
  • Implement Dartmouth’s Campus Climate and Culture Initiative (C3i) (Amy Keeler, Director of Career Services, serves on this committee);
  • Participate in continuing anti-racism education opportunities;
  • Prioritize programs that bring traditionally under-represented minorities into engineering;
  • Look to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) for advice on addressing racism;
  • Engage employers in discussion about hiring practices surrounding diversity and equity.
